Regarding the torso, I used those egg-like props and squished them almost completely flat. The kneepad thingies would probably work too.

[..YouTube..] Oh I almost forgot. What you can do is go to my website and search for "spore" the first post you find will contain a little image of the Scrab (among others) that you can just drag and drop onto the SCC and it'll load him up so you can study him all you want :)
