I’ve removed the youtube video because it doesn’t do the original 60fps video justice! Download the original below (Requires XviD codec.)

60 vs 24 FPS video 5578 DLs

The AVI download link seems to be Broke. I've tried manually downloading though (right click, save as) but it only saves a 39.0 byte avi file.

Ah, yes, thanks for the notice. I'll have that fixed in a few minutes.

A suggestion for the video: I can’t really make out the difference when the stuff runs side to side but clearly when you show it quickly in sucession. Other people might have had that too, so maybe a few more sections with wide sweeps and and 15 second pieces of gameplay alternating?
And nothing too hectic, I feel you can perceive this better when the action is only average.

Remember to have V-Sync ON ;)

i normally play cs with a crt @ 100hz with 100fps. On a tft 60 fps @ 60hz is ok too, but in generall everthing under 60fps is laggy for me.

The comparison with the ball showed a much bigger difference than the game. I think with the game there’s so much going on anyway, you’re constantly focusing on different areas of the screen, so it’s not as obvious. But yes, there is a difference.
Although, I’m sure that there are many people who will enjoy the “nostalgia” of the “slow” frame-rate.
Of course, there’s the refresh rate of the computer monitor to take into account, too. If the monitor is only set at 50Hz, and you’re seeing a 100fps video, then you’re missing out on half the frames due to the monitor’s refresh rate. I guess the key is to have the monitor be the limiting factor, rather than the frame-rate.
Gamers always want faster and better graphics anyway, so the more the better. ;-)

Hmmm, yeah. What one should try though is an animation of pictures, like photos. That would eliminate any motion blur, done correctly ofcourse, lightning quick exposure etc. But like I commented on your site, 24fps for films have that special feeling to it, I know I wouldn’t have it smoother just cause it’s smoother at first anyways. Time shall tell if 60fps will be the new thing though I guess. But then again they might as well just bump it up to 100 ;)
  • Some real life footage shot at 60fps, for comparison next to the same video at 30fps.

Indeed. However some people that aren’t used to high framerates apparently have a hard time telling the difference :) But if you’re used to high framerates like 50+ then anything lower is pretty noticable yes. You might call it a curse in disguise.

My eyes only think things are smooth 50fps + ….beneath that is laggy…

The only place i accept 30 fps is in movies….
